Have ChatGPT write complete chatbot dialogues: greetings, common questions and clear response paths that fit your brand.
Last updated: July 2026 · Collective Brain
Good for
- Write a welcome message and conversation starter for your website bot
- Build response paths for common questions like pricing, contact or hours
- Write fallback lines and human handoff copy for when the bot gets stuck
The prompt
You are a conversation designer and website copywriter. Write the dialogues for a chatbot on the homepage of [your company], which offers [your offering]. The target audience is [your audience].
Tone: helpful, short, informal, no filler and no over-the-top sales language. Keep every bot message to two sentences at most so it stays readable in the chat window.
Deliver the following building blocks:
1. Greeting: two versions of the opening message plus three clickable quick replies to get started.
2. Response paths: for the four most common needs (e.g. understanding the offer, pricing, contact, booking) write a mini-dialogue each, with a bot question, a typical user reply and a fitting bot response including the next step (link, form or follow-up question).
3. Lead question: a natural way for the bot to ask for an email or phone number without feeling pushy.
4. Fallback: two lines for when the bot does not understand the question, plus a handoff to a human.
5. Sign-off: one friendly closing message.
Format everything as a clear list with headings. Mark placeholders like links or names in square brackets. At the end, ask me two follow-up questions that would help you tailor the dialogues more closely to my business. Replace the bracketed placeholders with your own details.
Frequently asked
Can ChatGPT add the copy directly into my chatbot?
No. ChatGPT writes the dialogues as text that you then copy into your chatbot tool and set up as messages and response paths. The technical setup still happens inside your bot platform.
How do I make the bot actually sound like my brand?
The more specific you make the placeholders, the better. Add a few example sentences from your website in the prompt, or list words you want to avoid, and ChatGPT will match your tone much more closely.
